VSCO CAM Tips: Black and White

I have recently covered the general functions on VSCO CAM for your photo editing. In case you missed it, you can visit the page here.

Moving on, how do I use the application for black and white photo editing?

Firstly, let's start by uploading an image you want into the library. Next, select the filter which changes the photo to black and white. If you purchased the add-on packs on the free version of VSCO CAM, you will have more choices.

In this case, I played around with the two filters and decided to use 'B1'.

Decide on the strength of the filter by clicking onto it and select your desired outcome. I wouldn't want my photo to be too dark, so I used '+10'.

Next up, the exposure of the picture. The lower the exposure, the darker the image becomes. Certain pictures require certain types of style, so tweak around with the exposure before you decide on one.

I added in contrast as well to make my image slightly darker. In certain circumstances, you might want to lower your contrast, especially if you have opt to increase your exposure by quite a bit.

Next, I will add in some fade as well. (If you are unsure on how to add fade, do refer to the link at the start of the post)

Then, because of the increase in contrast and exposure, several details in the picture were gone. Therefore, I will increase the highlight option (the logo for changing the highlight is a pen tool with the letter 'H' beside it) to retrieve some of the details in the picture.

Last but not least, to save time and effort, I will always crop my edit so I could upload the final product to instagram as a whole and need not have to make any other further adjustments.

Like what I've said in the previous post, do explore the app especially the different tools you could use. The steps stated above are just some of the usual steps I will do for my edit, you could just take reference from them and edit the pictures using your own creativity as well!
